Time Managements Tips for College Students

Updated: May 3, 2021

Trying to balance free time and school work is a major challenge for college students who have poor management. No matter what, you’re always left with the same 24 hours in a day to check items off to-do lists, spend quality time with friends and family, and to unwind. By being proactive, planning ahead, and using your time wisely will help in accomplishing more and enjoying added free time.

Follow these three time management tips and strategies to ensure that you meet deadlines, well prepared for exams, and have time for yourself throughout.

1. Set Goals

One of the biggest problems students deal with is procrastination. College is a wonderful opportunity for students to prepare themselves for the real world, but college can also be a major distraction. No matter what is wasting your time, make sure to set goals to not engage in that behavior during dedicated study time. After meeting those goals, then you can reward yourself.

Make a list of things to do. Set goals for completion

2. Establish Routines

Routines are a great way to break bad habits. It helps check off the things that need to be completed. The more often you do this, the less you’ll have to think about when you’ll accomplish the tasks you need to finish that day.

3. Take time off

It is important to take time off for yourself. Mental health is extremely imperative in college because too much work can drive a person crazy. Long study sessions or chunks of time working on assignments should be broken up with time away from screens or textbooks. You have to give your mind rest.

Creating snack breaks, going to the gym for an hour or two, or even taking short naps can enhance your mind. Many students find meditation lower stress and makes the brains ability to process information more efficient. All of these activities can help relief stress and stimulate the mind.
